Mr Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, has cautioned the commission's officials who are responsible for recruiting new Constables about accepting money from applicants and their families.

Arase, a former Inspector-General of Police, issued the caution during a preliminary briefing for officials responsible for screening physical attributes and qualifications.

The briefing took place on Saturday, preceding the exercise scheduled to commence on Monday nationwide.

Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for the commission, announced this in a statement on Sunday.

Arase believes that this is not solely a process of hiring new employees, but rather an act of protecting and upholding the commission's duties and showing its ability.

He stated that gathering funds from applicants or their families went against the values of honesty and equity.

He emphasized that the officials were not just carrying out their responsibilities, but also influencing the destiny of the Force.

The Chairman instructed the officials to strictly follow the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behavior throughout the entire duration of the task.

"I urge you to be prepared for extraordinary difficulties during this undertaking. As more than 400,000 candidates go through your stations, each putting forth their case to join the Nigeria Police Force, the pressure will be overwhelming."

"Keep in mind that you have the responsibility of overseeing a procedure that not only has importance in itself, but also prepares for the upcoming recruitment of 30,000 individuals that has been authorized by the present government."

Arase urged the staff of the Commission to accept this responsibility, being aware that their actions will have a lasting impact.

He reminded them that as employees, they have been given the important task of representing the hopes and desires of our country for a fair and protected future.

"The chairman emphasized the importance of the recruitment process, highlighting that it holds great significance as it is the initial one carried out by the Commission subsequent to the supreme Court ruling on July 20, 2023.

The ruling reaffirmed the Commission's authority and sole responsibility in recruiting individuals for the Force."

"We are on the verge of a new era, and it is our solemn responsibility to guarantee that this process sets the highest benchmark for future hiring."

"The entire nation will carefully observe our actions, expecting our resolute devotion and loyalty to the fundamental values of equity and righteousness."

He urged the officials to demonstrate their best conduct, abiding by the utmost principles of discipline, integrity, and honesty.
