Mrs. Ariayire Ufuoma encountered a distressing incident in Lagos State when she confronted her neighbor, Mrs. Oluwanisola Owolabi, who attacked her and caused injuries through numerous bites over an undisclosed matter.
This incident took place at Toyin Oke Street, off Isuti Road, Egan area of Igando, Lagos, where they both reside. The 27-year-old Mrs. Owolabi has been arrested and charged for the alleged assault. The Police stated that Mrs. Owolabi and the complainant, Ufuoma, had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter, resulting in an exchange of words.
During this altercation, Ufuoma surprised Owolabi by grabbing her and causing injuries to various parts of her body before they were separated by their neighbors. Prior to this, Mrs. Owolabi had already sustained injuries.
The matter was reported to the Police at Igando Division, and Ufuoma was arrested after initially resisting arrest. She was detained at the station for questioning while Owolabi received treatment at an undisclosed hospital. Following interrogation, the Police found Ufuoma responsible for the incident and charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged assault and resisting arrest. However, Ufuoma pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, requested the Court to set a date for the hearing since Ufuoma pleaded not guilty, allowing the Police to prove her guilt. The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted Ufuoma bail in the amount of N100,000, with two sureties who must provide evidence of their means of livelihood and tax payment.
The case was adjourned until January 31, 2024, for mention, while Ufuoma was remanded in custody at the correctional centre in Kirikiri town, Lagos, until she fulfills her bail requirements.
