The police in Kaduna State announced yesterday that the Deputy Police Officer assigned to the Police Divisional Headquarters in Tafa, Kaduna, declined a bribe of N1 million offered to him by a suspected kidnapper named Bello Muhammad from Zamfara State.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the 28-year-old suspect was apprehended at a hotel after reliable information was received regarding his presence at the establishment located in the Tafa area of Kagarko local government. He stated that on the 19th of January 2024, the Divisional Headquarters received reliable information about a suspicious individual staying at a hotel in Tafa town.

The DPO-led team raided the hotel and apprehended a 28-year-old man named Bello Muhammad from Zamfara State. They also seized a sum of N2.3 million, believed to be his portion of the ransom money obtained from kidnapping.

"In the course of the investigation, the individual confessed to being involved in kidnapping and belonging to a gang that operated in Kagarko forest in Kaduna.

"Furthermore, evidence from the suspect's mobile phone supported his confession, as images of him wielding an AK47 rifle in a forest were recovered.

"Additionally, the suspect attempted to bribe the DPO with one million naira in order to halt the investigation, but the police officer immediately declined the offer." "The suspect is currently cooperating with the Police in providing crucial information, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, CP A.D Ali, commended the operatives of Tafa Division and encouraged them, as well as others, to maintain a high level of intensity until crime rates are significantly reduced," he stated.

Yet, he also relayed a warning from the State's Commissioner of Police, Audu Ali, advising hoteliers, recreation, and leisure service operators to thoroughly screen their clients before accepting them."
