Okenwa Chris Nzewi, a criminal involved in the drug trade, has lost ownership of his expensive mansion in Lagos.
The property, situated at K-5A/2 Road 14, Victoria Garden City (VGC) estate, was utilized as a concealed laboratory for the manufacturing of methamphetamine.
This confiscation followed Nzewi's legal proceedings and subsequent guilty verdict delivered by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Mr Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson of the anti-narcotic agency, revealed this information in a statement.
According to him, Okenwa and his accomplice Sunny Okeh Ukah were apprehended on 30th July 2022 and later brought before the Federal High Court in Lagos, where they faced four charges under case number FHC/L/527C/2022.
The Fidelity Leaderboard shows that both individuals confessed to their crimes on July 17, 2023. As a result, they were found guilty and given prison sentences of four and three years, respectively.
They also had the option to pay fines of four million naira and three million naira, in addition to performing community service for four and three weeks each.
Additionally, one of them had their vehicle, identified as EKY 496 DJ, seized by the Federal Government.
In order to prevent him from benefiting from his illegal actions, the NDLEA took legal action by filing a civil forfeiture charge against the building that was utilized as a secret laboratory.
This case was presented at the Federal High Court in Lagos, which initially granted a temporary order for forfeiture. However, this order expired on 6th December, leading to the final forfeiture being granted on 7th December 2023.
