The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested Olu Agunloye, a former Minister of Power and Steel.

In a statement titled "In pursuit of justice, productivity, under the rule of law," Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka confirmed this development.

Agunloye was wanted by the EFCC due to allegations of corruption in the $6 billion Mambilla hydropower contract.

Soyinka confirmed that Agunloye expressed his commitment to cooperate with the agency after being declared wanted, and subsequently appeared at the EFCC office in Abuja where he was arrested and detained.

The head of the EFCC stated that Agunloye's release would be dependent on the instructions of the President of Nigeria.

Soyinka expressed concerns regarding the exercise of power, emphasizing that the matter involves national interests and the rights of citizens. He believes that the Mambilla project presents an opportunity for the country to address the issue and ensure sustainable power supply for national industrial development.
