According to CRIMEWATCHNEWSPAPER, Stephen, the suspect, confessed to the crime after being apprehended by the Police. He claimed that he is not someone who engages in fights and admitted to sniffing marijuana before the fight that resulted in his friend's death.

Stephen was arrested by detectives from Sango Division in the Ogun State Police Command for fatally stabbing Francis, a 23-year-old, because Francis demanded the repayment of N7,000 that Stephen had borrowed from him.

Despite repeated requests for repayment, Francis became enraged when Stephen refused to return the money, even after receiving his salary.

On the day of the incident, Francis learned that Stephen had received his salary and approached him to ask for his money. However, the suspect insisted that he had no money, leading to a heated argument and ultimately a physical altercation.

During the fight, Stephen, who resided in a single room, grabbed a knife and stabbed Francis in the chest.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the details and stated that Francis was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead, resulting in the suspect's arrest.

Stephen, who hails from Benue State, explained that he arrived in Ogun State in January 2022 and began working as a scaffold worker at a church in Ota.

Providing further details about the stabbing incident, Stephen revealed that Francis, who was also a scaffold worker, obtained the job through his recommendation. Their mutual friend from Benue introduced Francis to him.

Stephen explained that he borrowed N7,000 from Francis when he needed money for his wife's delivery. He added his own money to pay a hospital fee of N20,000 out of the required N30,000.

However, financial difficulties arose, and they struggled to afford food for over a month due to Stephen's workplace not providing him with any money. When Stephen eventually obtained some money, he asked Francis for patience as he owed many people more than N70,000.

The altercation between Stephen and Francis began when Francis confronted Stephen's wife, demanding to know his whereabouts. Angry about the confrontation, Stephen accused Francis of embarrassing him for the debt and stated that he never received any money after lending him his certificate for employment.

Before Stephen could finish speaking, Francis attacked him, resulting in a physical fight. In the heat of the moment, Stephen grabbed a kitchen knife and accidentally stabbed Francis.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Stephen rushed Francis to the General Hospital in Ota. However, he was advised to obtain a Police report. When he returned to the hospital with the report, he was informed that Francis had died.

If found guilty in court, the suspect could face several years of imprisonment or even life imprisonment for the alleged murder.
